The Engineering Technical Leader leads locomotive modernization, NPI kits, Software, and Controls Obsolescence projects with broad scope and high impact to the business. In this role you will be responsible for complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues, and drive the overall projects coordination and execution. The Engineering Technical Leader’s focus is to interpret and communicate system level customer product requirements and/or internal business requirements to supporting subsystems, working to identify and drive solutions to interface issues and validate that they are met through the design review process. In this role you will lead projects from conception to customer delivery by being the primary engineering interface between the product, commercial program management, engineering design, validation, and production/field implementation teams.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Ability to excel in a lean mission-based team environment though optimized designs, validation scope, and customer focused results
· Provide technical leadership for a team of engineers for all product design aspects of the assigned NPI, Software, Controls Obsolescence and/or locomotive modernization projects
· Develop and maintain projects schedule, engage necessary engineering resources for successful execution
· Analyze and identify project risks and develop/implement mitigation plan
· Deliver strong and concise requirements and product definition to supporting engineering teams
· Provide analysis of overall system design with focus on design rigor and practical improvements
· Knowledge of engineering processes and tools used to create system level documentation (QSW, DOORS, EDOT, PLM, Reliance, etc)
· Organizing and performing system level validation plans on products
· Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as commercial, proposals, manufacturing, sourcing, services, reliability, global engineering, and systems engineering
· Support service programs, fulfillment, and New Product Introduction (NPI)
· Support customer delivery and commissioning, on-site or remotely
· Communicate progress to all levels of the organization
· Mentor and develop less experienced personnel
Qualifications/ Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering/Control Electronics/Computer Science
· 7+ years of various complexity product developments and project/programs execution experience
· Systems approach and analytical mindset
· Ability to adapt quickly to evolving requirements
· Strong cross-functional teamwork and project/program management
· Familiarity with manufacturing processes
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
· Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
· Willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and/or on locomotives
· Ability to mentor and coach less experienced peers
Desired Characteristics:
· Master’s degree in Engineering
· Six Sigma training
